Notes

  • After Malaysia a week earlier, which was interesting and exciting, Singapore turned out to be a bore.
  • Sprint plus race, I’m done with this format. They just keep cramming in as many sessions as possible to squeeze out every last bit of viewership.
  • These narrow street circuits are really disappointing come race day. Far more interesting in qualifying. In the race there’s very little overtaking, maybe a better chance of a safety car. The current cars are to blame, they’re way too wide.
  • Max Verstappen and Red Bull are having a very strong second half of the season. Right now they have the best car on the grid, or Max has found a way to get absolutely everything out of it.
  • Max wins the sprint, Lewis P2, Charles P3. Russell retires, this season just isn’t happening for him in any way.
  • Qualifying for the race plays out similar to the sprint: Max P1, Charles P2, Lewis P3.
  • Ferrari look like they’re in with a shot at a double podium. But we’re all used to it never being that simple with Ferrari.
  • A strange race in which the softs hold up better than the mediums. Pretty much everyone who switched to mediums after the start ends up coming back to the pits for a set of softs.
  • We get a VSC and everyone tries to dive into the pits. Ferrari could have brought both cars in and finished the race P2 and P3. Hamilton doesn’t pit, and the broadcast never made it clear whether or not the team actually called him in.
  • So Hamilton is left out on old softs, trying to string together a few more good laps to the finish, I’d say around 12-15 if I remember correctly. He can’t hold on to P3, gets eaten up by the drivers behind who pitted under the VSC, and ends up finishing P6.
  • Turns out this time it wasn’t a botched strategy from the team, Lewis decided himself not to pit, believing he could stretch the softs to the end.
  • The race finishes with Max P1, Charles P2, Antonelli P3. And Kimi Antonelli is inching closer to becoming the 2026 champion. From now on, every race gives him a mathematical chance to wrap up the title fight.
