Notes
- Another Formula 1 weekend, Mexico, beautiful weather, Antonelli getting ready to become champion. The only thing that could still change that is his engine blowing up.
- Ferrari give us hope again in the practice sessions, then in qualifying it’s Hamilton P1, Russell P2, Charles P3.
- All the planets and stars are aligning for a Ferrari 1-2 on Sunday in Mexico
- The only ones who didn’t align were Lewis and Charles.
- Russell has a terrible start, and in the first 3 corners the Ferrari drivers manage to fight each other for P1, until Charles goes off onto the grass and Lewis loses P1 to Max Verstappen.
- How many times has something like this happened at Ferrari in 2026? This was a race that could have ended 1-2 for Ferrari, but Charles acts like he’s 14 and only his own race and his own position matter. At this point Ferrari need team orders. I don’t care about their egos, they can’t be above the team.
- We also get a safety car — Valtteri Bottas breaks his front-left suspension and can do nothing but hold on to the steering wheel as he goes into the wall. It turns into a red flag and we get a restart from the starting grid. Verstappen, Charles, Lewis at the front.
- Verstappen gets a good start, Lewis catches Charles and passes him. Kimi comes through past Charles as well.
- It ends with Verstappen P1, Lewis P2, Kimi Antonelli P3 and world champion.
- The podium photo is beautiful too, with Kimi on Max and Lewis’s shoulders. He’s had a superb season. Next year I hope it’s harder for the other teams to get close to Mercedes.
- In the constructors’ championship the top spots are pretty much settled. But in the drivers’ there are still positions up for grabs.
